One Decision Can Change Your Life

Sermon of the Day: Seeing and Savoring the Supremacy of Jesus Christ

Genesis 15:4-6

And behold, the word of the Lord came to him, saying, “This one shall not be your heir, but one who will come from your own body shall be your heir.” Then He brought him outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.”

And he believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.

Good Morning Men.

Abram is nearing 100 years old and still has no children of his own. In this culture especially having a son was very important to them.

Until this night when God rocks Abram’s world and gives him a powerful promise.

Without hesitation Abram believes the Lord.

Men today I want to highlight the power of a decision.

This one decision changed everything for Abram and for every one who will ever come to faith in Jesus Christ.

God changed Abram’s name to Abraham it changed the meaning of His name, and in the Hebrew language the change is powerful, but that’s for another time.

Abraham is called the spiritual father of all of those who come to faith in Jesus Christ. This decision on this night under the stars put into motion what God had planned before the foundation of the world was even laid. However Abraham took that step of faith, by believing in this promise that sounded impossible. That was a choice to believe.

Men, it doesn’t matter your background, what you did or didn’t do. It does not matter how sinful and unworthy you may think you are. God calls us to believe and to follow Him. God desires that all men be saved.

It is hard for me to really explain how this impacted me, I really hope it impacts you in at least a fraction of what it did for me. We make choices everyday, thousands of them. How many can we make that bring glory and honor to God. All believe all of them, but it starts with one.

For some here, that may be to first of all believe that everything in God’s Word is infallible. Second that Jesus Christ died for your sins, and by believing in Him you will find forgiveness of your sins but also eternal life with God Almighty.

For others here, it may be prioritizing the Word of God each day. If we believe God’s word then we must believe Matthew 4:4, that man does not live on bread alone. Without the living bread we will spiritually starve. Spending time in prayer each day. Making changes so that these don’t just become daily habits. They become a part of your very life.

For the majority here, we then can start making decisions that will show more love and gratefulness towards our wives. Treating them and loving them unconditionally, and as we love ourselves. This brings glory to God in ways we will never fully see in this life. But our marriages are supposed to point to Christ and bring Him glory.

What decisions can you start making to leave a legacy? What decisions can you make to to impact souls for eternity? For most of us it starts right in our own homes.

The list is endless. My prayer for you all will be that God will speak to you and reveal to you the decisions you can make to start taking steps to growing closer in Him. That you will not ignore His voice and nudging on your heart.
