As a Man Thinketh

Sermon of the Day: The Problem of Procrastination

Proverbs 23:7

For as he thinks in his heart, so is he…

Good Morning Men!

I am reading a book right now called ‘As a Man Thinketh’ by James Allen. This book is based off the above verse.

James Allen is going deep and giving a very philosophical view of how powerful our thoughts are, and how much control we have over them. He also goes on to describe many illustrations of how these same thoughts will produce the same type of fruit in our lives.

I just wanted to share a few quotes from his book that really stood out to me.

My hope is you enjoy them and really reflect on the impact our thoughts can have.
” Circumstance does not make the man it reveals him to himself.” p.16

“Men do not attract that which they want, but that which they are.” p.17

“Not what he wishes and prays for does a man get, but what he justly earns. His wishes and prayers are only gratified and answered when they harmonize with his thoughts and actions.” p.17(Don’t over analyze this one too much, pretty sure this one could get un-biblical real quick. Just take it for face value.)

Good thoughts and actions can never produce bad results; bad thoughts and actions can never produce good results. This is but saying that nothing can come from corn but corn…” p.23

Suffering is always the effect of wrong thought in some direction. It is an indication that the individual is out of harmony with himself, with the Law of his being. The sole an and supreme use of suffering is to purify, to burn out all that is useless and impure. Suffering cases for him who is pure. There could be no object in burning gold after the dross had been removed, and a perfectly pure and enlightened being could not suffer.” p. 24

My prayer is that at least one of those will impact you and get you thinking and reflecting and actively working on your thoughts. As a Christian when your unsure what kind of thoughts to have, the Bible is our guide.

2 Timothy 3:16-17

16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
