Sermon of the Day: How Can We Be Clothed with Power?

 

Ephesians 3:16-19 NIV

16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

Good Morning Men.

My hope and prayer is that this devotion will find you well, but hungry. Content in the things of this world by searching and clawing for more of God. I hope this finds some of you at a crossroads, where life has you asking yourself some tough questions. Questions about your direction in life, the meaning of your existence and stamp here on this earth.

Men, what do you labor for?

Labor for Priceless Riches. That was a topic that I came across a few days ago. Honestly I forget where, maybe a book, a verse or a sermon I am not sure. But that topic has been on my heart and I wanted to share some thoughts with you today.

I chose the above verse to illustrate this topic, however please know that there probably are books literally written about the depth and content of this chapter. In no way will I be able to give you the full depth and interpretation of what is here, rather a sliver of God’s amazing love for us.

God’s glorious riches, or the riches of His glory are absolutely priceless. In the above passage, Paul is praying for these things for the church, which is you and me. Some of the glorious riches that I personally pull from scripture are peace, love, joy, forgiveness, knowledge and faith of purpose. There is also the fruit of the spirit that is listed in Galatians 5:22-23.

These are gifts that are absolutely available to the born again believer in Christ Jesus. These are gifts that are so worthy and worthwhile for you to spend as much effort and time as you can to labor for.

You may be wondering why do we have to work for this?

This does not come naturally men. We are sinners saved by grace with hearts bent on hell and rebellion. We have to fight and work constantly against our sinful nature.

We need faith in Christ, and we need to be rooted and grounded in love (17). If we could only begin to grasp the height, depth and width of the love of God(18), that mindset would radically change your life. Men this understanding will just absolutely floor you when you start to really see how much God loves you and me. This love is so radical and so powerful we will never fully grasp it in this life, it is far to great for our finite minds and sinful hearts. However, we do not need to fully grasp it, just a beginners understanding would move you beyond recognition.

In today’s sermon there are some practical steps to seeking this power. The power that is able to help you overcome your fleshly desires and nature and start living a life of obedience to God. In the love of Christ, surrounded by the presence of God we will begin to immerse ourselves deeper into the glorious riches of Christ. Some of our labors will look different, but for the most part all of us will need to turn from selfish desires and carry our cross, daily (Luke 9:23).

May the Lord bless you with power and desire for more of Him.
