Abide in Me

Sermon of the Day: Hope Anchored in Heaven

John 15: 1-7

“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away;[a] and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.

“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.

Good Morning Men!

I wanted to share a personal lesson that I learned recently. The above verse was the first verse that came to my mind in regards to this situation, so I am attaching it to this lesson.

Long story short, my wife left her job this summer to be a stay at home mom and home school teacher. This huge transition has caused my wife and I to pursue some different options and endeavors.

Recently a series of events was not working out the way we had planned or worked toward. To say it simply, this was an extreme let down for me. We have been working so hard for a few results, and the results appeared to have come up short.

The next morning I spent some time in prayer and in the word of God and the Lord really pressed on my heart. The Lord revealed to me that my life should be dependent on Him and Him alone. That my emotions should not be attached to any earthly pursuits because these pursuits will have setbacks. As a Christian, I need to remember that all I need is Christ. All my desires and efforts need to be completely dependent on Him and His promises. In my pursuits of things in this world I need to remember what Paul teaches, whether we live or die, it is gain. If I could translate that into my own words, no matter what happens in this life it is so insignificant compare to Christ. Our comfort and our joy should be directly linked to Him. If we can become anchored in this we will never waver. We will never become so emotionally attached to something that is so temporary.

I thought it was so fitting that today’s sermon was about being anchored in the hope of heaven. I hope you enjoy that teaching from Pastor John.

My prayer for this ministry today, is that all of you will reflect and evaluate your relationship with God. Specifically in relation to what you are dependent on bringing you satisfaction and joy. Remember that when we abide in Christ, or the vine we will bear much fruit.

May the Lord richly bless you and keep you, may His face shine upon you and be gracious to you, may the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace. (Numbers 6)
