Understanding to Know Him

Sermon of the Day: Why Jesus Still Bears the Scars

Jeremiah 9:23-24 NIV

23 This is what the Lord says:

“Let not the wise boast of their wisdom
or the strong boast of their strength
or the rich boast of their riches,
24 but let the one who boasts boast about this:
that they have the understanding to know me,
that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness,
    justice and righteousness on earth,
    for in these I delight,”
declares the Lord.

Good Morning Men!

This verse is pretty clear, no need for any translation here.

However what I would like to focus on, is the reflections of our own hearts.

Is there something on this list that you have a tendency to boast about? Or maybe it is a subcategory of one of these major areas?

My encouragement men is that we all examine our hearts, our minds, our activities and our intentions. Maybe we don’t directly boast about something, but is there a tendency to disguise our boast with some other action?

I know I am guilty of this, I just caught myself trying to boast about something through my actions yesterday. So let’s be honest with ourselves and learn to look to Christ rather than self.

Lets have the understanding to know God. Lets pray and ask God for an increasing desire to know Him more! Build up your spiritual disciplines to spend time in His Word. Make it a daily routine of opening the Word of God, to hear from God. God will speak to you through His Word. He says in Jeremiah 33, “call on me and I will answer you...”. So call on Him!

Men, finally how awesome would it be for the God of the universe to delight in you. To delight in the way you are loving your wife, loving and raising your children to know Him. That God would delight in your relationships, how you deal with work and so many other areas of your life.

God wants to use every single one of us to boast of Him. To shine His light too so many lost souls that do not know Him, or reject Him. This world is hurting, people are searching for answers.

We hold every answer in Christ. We hold the key to peace, love and joy through God’s Holy Spirit. Stop messing around with unfruitful works men. Lets grow in Him, be a light, be a blessing and serve those around us with the love of Christ.

Lets learn how to take our eyes off ourselves, and place them on others. Let’s stop boasting of ourselves and lets compliment and praise others. This takes work and tons of practice, not to many of us talk, live and act this way. We have never been taught, and we definitely don’t see this being modeled anywhere. But through Christ, through the Holy Spirit we can change this.

Brothers, ask and you shall receive. I call these slam dunk prayers. When you pray and ask God to be used by Him, its a slam dunk. God wants this heart in all of us. It may take time, because we need some refining, reshaping and renewing. But trust me, its coming if you really mean it and you really seek Him first.

Father, help me to put you first in my life. Cleanse my mind and my heart of everything that is not of You. Help me to see you in a new light, in all Your glory  and splendor. That I may be in awe of you. Teach me to understand and know You. Amen.
