Doer of the Word

September 11, 2016

James 1:22

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

Good Morning Men!

Has someone ever deceived you?

I’m sure its safe to say we all have been deceived in one way or another. It happens, right?

But, how many of us deceive ourselves?

That is a whole different problem. The first example we usually have less of a choice. For some reason we were blinded or misled into deception. Still our fault, but a little less.

But when we do it to ourselves it is 100% on us.

The other night in our Bible Study we covered the above chapter, and this verse jumped out at us. My first encouragement would be to read this whole chapter.

Many of us are standing on the sideline of our faith and not participating in the teamwork of kingdom building. This would not be a problem at all, except for the fact that God has commanded us all throughout scripture to go and preach the gospel.

This “preaching” obviously looks different for all of us. Simply put, it’s about sharing our faith. One of my old time mentors always said, the best way to know if your doing good as a christian, is to ask a non-christian that knows you.

I had a great conversation yesterday with a very dear brother in our ministry. We were talking about how there is a direct correlation to sharing our faith and growing in our relationship with Christ. So the opposite also becomes true, when we are not sharing our faith we will dry up and wither.

The best analogy to think of is a river, a river receives water from another source (God). The river nourishes everything along its banks (family, friends) all the way till it dumps into another body bigger than itself (non-believers).

A pond on the other hand may receives a large downpour (a great message, feeling, or event), looks great and welcoming (got a fire and joy about Jesus). Then it just sits there, while the sun continues to drain every ounce of water (negativity, worldly distractions). Until there is nothing left.

If you want to be a doer of the Word, Spend time in Gods Word. Spend time in prayer. Ask God simply and clearly what He wants you to do. If you search for Him with ALL YOUR HEART, you will find Him, you will get an answer (Jeremiah 29:13).
