Psalm 79:8-9

Oh, do not remember former iniquities against us!
Let Your tender mercies come speedily to meet us,
For we have been brought very low.
Help us, O God of our salvation,
For the glory of Your name;
And deliver us, and provide atonement for our sins,
For Your name’s sake!

Although there are many great points in this passage, I want to focus on two lines.

The point I want to get across today is an infectious life altering, life taking disease. This disease has no limits, no boundaries and absolutely no human cure. This disease is the disgustingly nasty sin of pride.

The psalmist is speaking for the nation of Israel, however we can easily take this and apply to ourselves individually.

“For we have been brought very low. Help us, O God of our salvation.”

How you every been knocked down physically? I personally many times in many different ways. Sometimes on accident, sometimes intentionally by another person. If your anything like me, after being knocked down, and sitting or lying on the ground; it is very difficult to feel like you are a winner.

How about when we get knocked down mentally? Or spiritually? This is where emotions kick in, and for most of us start to really mess us up. We normally resort to fleshly feelings and reactions. But look at what the psalmist does: help us O, God of our salvation!

Why is the sin of pride so deadly?

Pride puffs us up above the thought of needing help from an invisible God! This pride is like a veil over our hearts that will not allow the spirit of God access.

Men when you are brought low, God will call you. You have a choice to humble yourself before Him and remove the veil of pride over your heart. Or you can leave the veil find a fleshly way to block the tug on your heart and press through thinking you made it.

For those of you that choose life and choose to remove the veil, please remember this veil has powerful roots of regrowth that continue for the rest of our lives to look for a foothold. Be on guard for that.

Remember the word says; God gives grace to the humble, and opposes the proud.
