Spiritual Goals

June 1, 2016

1 Corinthians 6:9-11

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

Yesterday I had an amazing conversation with one of my brothers in this ministry. Through the night and this morning the Lord began weighing heavy on my heart about the topic of goal setting.

Not sure about you, but I need goals. Without a goal I personally have a hard time being motivated and staying focused. In many areas of my life I have placed goals to work towards and achieve.

This morning I really started thinking about spiritual goals. I want to challenge my brother from yesterday, and I want to challenge all of you. What spiritual goals do you have?

If you are like me, and you are not living the full and complete life that God is truly desiring for you, you need goals.

The above verse stood out to me because I think we can get very comfortable in our sin that we deceive ourselves. Although we may not really associate ourselves with some of the things listed above, if we are honest several if not many of those are present in some way, shape or form.

Men, do you want to live a life that is full and complete in Jesus Christ? Do you want to inherit the kingdom of God? I believe most if not all of you would say yes.

Have you been born again? Confessed your sin, and confessed Jesus Christ as Lord over your lives? Have you been baptized in the name of Jesus to declare publicly your faith?

If your answers are still yes, then remember you have been sanctified and justified in the name of Jesus Christ. If you had a no anywhere along the way, shoot me a message if you need clarification.

So what are you struggling with? What sin is present in your life that you know you need to get rid of?

Mine is pride. I have traced back through my issues and at the root of my main problems today, is pride.

My goal is to be filled with a gentle and humble spirit in all things. That the alpha male type personality that I have will be renewed to be filled with the fruits of God’s Spirit. Clothed in humility so that everyone will see my life and praise God my father in heaven.

Matthew 5:16

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Dig and find yours. Then commit your prayer life to seek God constantly to be honest, begging and pleading for God to give you a hunger and thirst for righteousness. That God would give you a broken and contrite heart, because that is what HE desires above offering and sacrifice.

Then seek someone to hold you accountable to your goal.

Grace and Peace brothers.
