Fix Your Thoughts on God

May 27, 2016

Isaiah 26:3 NLT

You will keep in perfect peace
    all who trust in you,
all whose thoughts are fixed on you!

Our church is working through a series on emotional development.

As we all know emotions are very real in our lives. Our emotions conjure great things in our lives and the lives of others, our emotions also bring about things we greatly regret.

Where do emotions come from?

God.

Our creator is filled with emotions, when you read through scripture every emotion can be found.

We are created in His image and therefore have these same types of emotions. The problem is sin. Our emotions are corrupt, while God’s are perfect and righteous.

As Christians we need to learn to be emotionally stable. For me the above verse wraps up everything we have been learning about in our series. All the verses throughout our study have been screaming to me about trust.

Trusting more in God, learning to trust Him, wanting to trust Him; when things are good and when things are bad.

I am sure all of you would agree, we all want to trust God more.

I believe God has given us the key to unlock the door of trust in this verse.

We need to fix our thoughts on Him!

There so many distractions in our world today that constantly pull our thoughts from God, and from His Word. That is why so many of us are lukewarm in our faith. That is why so many of us are not actively doing anything for Christ.

The things we watch on TV, the music we listen to, the things we read, the people we seek for advice for starters…how many of us can say that in these areas it helps us to fix and focus our thoughts on God?

Some of you may be wondering, do I have to give up the things I enjoy? Absolutely not, but ask yourself, those things you enjoy, are they helping your anxiety? your fear? your marriage? your relationships with your children? Thought so.

Well all could greatly improve in all those areas. We all want to improve in all those areas. So lets start now.

Make plans in your day-to-day, hour to hour, minute by minute to fix your thoughts on God. Ask God for the wisdom to do so. Ask God for help on how and what that looks like. God will answer those prayers. He has given His word in the book of James that when we ask for wisdom He will give it. Remember also that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.

May this message strike you right between the eyes. That you walk away wanting nothing less but to fix your thoughts on God.
