Acknowledge and Confess

Psalm 32:3-5

3 When I kept silent,
    my bones wasted away
through my groaning all day long.
For day and night
    your hand was heavy on me;
my strength was sapped
as in the heat of summer.

Then I acknowledged my sin to you
and did not cover up my iniquity.
I said, “I will confess
    my transgressions to the Lord.”
And you forgave
    the guilt of my sin.

This Psalm is from King David, describing the anguish he was going through with unrepentant sin. Then the breakthrough and deliverance when he did repent and confess his sins to God, and of course God forgave him.

Recently I was headed to dark place in my relationship with one of my daughters. My heart was getting hard, in fact I told my wife that I was done. I was tired of being patient, loving and so on; and the last I could do was be fake. I thought I drew my line in the sand in our relationship. I was making every justification for what I was doing, that is was warranted and justified. I was right!

The very next morning in my devotion time I started with one of my cards, where I have written down some desires, or great thoughts followed up with a scripture.

Instantly as I began to read it I was humbled and convicted. I was wrong in my thinking. I was wrong in what I was feeling and saying. The Lord instantly renewed my mind, he reminded me about what I am reading in Judges. That as the people of Israel continued to be on and off again with their love  for Him, He forgave them and rescued them every time! The Holy Spirit pressed on my heart that is how I am supposed to be as a father. That His command, that we be made into the image of Jesus Christ became so real in this situation.

I am so grateful, and continue to Praise God every time I think about this conviction and deliverance God has done for me. That very night I went home and my heart was soft, my daughter and I had a great conversation for the first time in a long time. Even more amazing is God was also working in her heart without her even knowing it. Praise the Lord men,  God is so good and faithful!

I wanted to share a quote from Dr. J. Vernon McGee’s commentary. Thru the Bible, pg. 30; on the above verses:

“If you are a child of God, you can sin, but you cannot get by with it. That is the difference between the saved and the unsaved man. If you are a man of the world, you can get by with your sin temporarily, but a child of God cannot.”

This is extremely powerful, and raw. My hope is that we all will constantly evaluate our hearts, mind, words, actions and intentions. I am reminded of how God’s Word teaches that we must judge ourselves or God will judge us. By this it means that we should be honest with ourselves as it aligns to God’s Word (1 Corinthians 11:31), if we are not, be sure one day God will judge those thoughts and actions and it won’t be pretty.
