Inside or Outside of Christ

Galatians 5:24

And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

If you are reading this post, I think it is safe to say you are either a follower of Jesus Christ, interested in being a follower, or curious.

What does it mean to be a follower?

One definition says: ‘an adherent or devotee of a particular person, cause, or activity.’

Jesus says in Luke 9:23:

Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.

Now the above verse is the Apostle Paul reiterating what Jesus says, however he really takes it a step farther.

The Bible teaches us that if we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and confess Him as Lord with our mouth that we are saved (Romans 10:9).

To be saved is to be in Christ. To be unsaved is to be outside of Christ.

To live for Christ is the fruit of salvation. To live for self is human nature, we are hard-wired to think of self first. However to have every desire centered around self, to truly have no care or concern for things of Christ is the fruit of no salvation.

Why is this important?

God is jealous God.

Not because He wants to rob us of all the things that appear to be so great in this life.

God is jealous God because He created you and me, He knows exactly what is best for us. He wants us to trust Him.

The pride of life will always say: I know whats best for me, I know what I need to do, thank you very much. By the way I think I am a really good person.

However the humility of Christ, the spirit that yearns for us to deny the desires of the flesh, say: I was created by You, for You and through You. Who am I to say that I know better. Father, into your hands I commit my spirit. You are the potter I am the clay. May Your will be done in my life.

If this speaks to your heart, you feel some type of tug or desire to have the humility and obedience of Christ, don’t ignore that, don’t fight it…that is the Holy Spirit pleading with your heart. Lets pray together.

Heavenly Father, I am struggling with letting go and trusting in You. I want to know You more. I want to trust in You completely. I want to crucify the passions and desires of my flesh. Father, pour into me your grace, wisdom and understanding. Give me eyes to see and hears to hear, and a heart to receive. In the name of Your son Jesus we pray, Amen.
