IF…You Are Not Moved

Colossians 1:10

…that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God…

Good Morning Men. I apologize for my inconsistent writings, and the long gaps between them sometimes, I just have not been wise with my time and my deepest apologies, especially to those of you that look forward to them.

This morning I read through the book of Colossians and just kept getting amazed and floored by so many things throughout this great book. Let me highlight a few of the treasures that spoke to my heart.

In chapter 1, verses 9-12 Paul describes 8 gifts that truly exemplify the love of Christ within our hearts. They will always come in varying measures, however my hope and prayer is that all of us would hunger for more of these each day.

Paul states that he is praying and asking that the members of these churches be filled with:

  • The knowledge of His will – oh how special and life breathing it is to learn the will of God in all areas of your life.
  • All wisdom – wisdom is like a badge and best friend of the christian mindset, leading us in word and deed.
  • Spiritual understanding – without this, things just get hazy and confusing, turning our attention to something easier, that will not bear the same fruit.
  • Walk worthy of the LORD – what an amazing place to be, that in all we do, we walk worthy of His standard. Even with our weaknesses and shortcomings.
  • Fully pleasing to Him – this almost seems like the dangling carrot, yet what we may forget, is that by pursuing the carrot you continue to grow and move along in your walk with Christ.
  • Increasing in the knowledge of God – without this increase everything else will fall apart. Praise the Lord for the Word of God that has everything we need for life and godliness.
  • Strengthened with all might according to His power – we all need strength, some days more than others, the key is; “according to His power”.
  • All Patience and longsuffering with joy – oh man, is this a tough one for me. Not only do we need these, but we need them with joy. Not the fake joy on the outside, but true joy that only comes through the peace of God ruling in our hearts.

These things are followed by describing the preeminence of Jesus Christ. That He and He alone is over all creation. That everything was created through Him and for Him, that He is before all things and in Him all things consist (Colossians 1:15-18). Without this foundational belief everything previously will be impossible to grow in.

To tie this all together, verses 22-23 describes how Paul wants to present these believers “holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight…”.

How does this happen? Verse 23:

IF, indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel…

That, “if”; jumps out at me in the text. However, it is not about only going to church on Sunday. It is not about being involved in a bible study group, or even reading your bible everyday.

It is about not being moved away from the hope of the gospel!

The hope that Jesus Christ is alive today and forevermore. That Jesus died for our sins, He conquered the grave so we can have life. Not only in this life but in the life to come. Not to be victims in this life, but to be victorious. To bear fruits worthy of repentance, to be fruitful in every word and deed.

Cling to the LORD men. Wherever you are in your relationship with Him, He is there with arms wide open, wanting more of you. He does not need us, but oh how desperately we need Him, and I pray you see that with me.

Your posts are highly appreciated, and an encouragement for people like myself, to seek the Lord in daily life. Admittedly, seeking the Lord and keeping a real daily relationship with Him gets sidetracked by the routines of daily living.

Keep up your good work in firing up men’s desire to seek the Lord! Thank you and may God bless us all!

    • Praise the Lord Hector! What a blessing and encouragement your words are. That is truly my passion and desire, that God will speak through these writings; to keep seeking the Lord and staying on fire for His glory.
Thank you Hector, and yes may God bless every heart here!
