Once Saved Always Saved?

January 30, 2016

Ephesians 5:6

Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

The context of this passage is relating to the Gnostic ( go here for Gnosticism) teaching that was going on during this time period. Paul is helping sort through the junk that has been circulating the church in Ephesus.

Since many of us have never heard of this teaching it does not make this passage irrelevant. Rather Gnosticism has just taken on a different form which comes in many shapes and colors today; for example: once saved always saved.

Whether or not you have heard this saying, believe, or live by it, or not; the spoiled fruit of this saying is produced with actions. Actions that promote a lifestyle that proclaims I can live any way I want, because I am already saved. Here are some examples:

  • It’s okay if I check out women, as long as I am not touching
  • God loves me and wants me to be happy, so I can have any type of relationship I want, as long as I am happy.
  • I am so proud of myself, for what I have accomplished
  • I do not need to go to church, my church is in my heart

We could go on for days. The point is men, many of these sayings have one ounce of truth and ten pounds of junk. As a believer in Jesus Christ we need to be imitators of God (Ephesians 5:1), we need to walk in love (Ephesians 5:2). We need to walk as children of light (Ephesians 5:8), we need to walk circumspectly or carefully (Ephesians 5:15), and we need to be filled with the Spirit (Ephesians 5:18).

Men, let’s be honest with ourselves, let’s be transparent, lets turn from our former conduct, put off the old man who grows corrupt according to deceitful lusts; be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new man created by God in true righteousness and holiness (Ephesians 4:21-24).

Do you need help doing any of this? Maybe you do not know where to start. Then call God, here is His Phone number:

Jeremiah 33:3

‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’

At the end of the day men, it’s really simple. Don’t complicate it. You have as much of God as you want. It starts with you.

May the Lord of all the earth give you a burning desire to submit and pursue Him with all your heart and mind.

  1. Great post my sister.

I believe OSAS is destroying and sending many “Christians” to Hell just as the Roman Catholic Church.
