Part 2. Is Getting Saved the Highlight?

January 13, 2016

1 Corinthians 3:11-15

11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is. 14 If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.’

So we ended the last post from this series about having a ‘Labor of Love’.

Go here if you have not read that.

God has chosen His people to be a part of building the Kingdom of God and the foundation of this kingdom is Jesus Christ.

The above verse is giving us examples of gold, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw; these are representative of anything other than Jesus Christ. Or in other words, substitutes for Him. Some of these substitutes may even look very attractive to our friends, peers or community (gold, precious stones). However, remember that if Jesus Christ is not the foundation, it will all burn up.

2 Corinthians 5:10

10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

  • The Judgement Seat of Christ. All believers that put their trust and faith in Jesus Christ will appear before the Lord Jesus Christ ( Go here for a very in-depth article on the Judgement Seat of Christ). This will not be to receive punishment because all of our sins have been washed by the blood of Jesus. This will be a judgement for our works here on earth, and what rewards those works deserve. The Bible is very clear that there will be different rewards for every believer based on their works.

My hope in this short series was to hopefully bring some knowledge and enlightenment, or if anything encouragement. So that all of us will run and finish the race of life well. This race is a marathon, and just as a marathon runner needs support and resources to train and finish a race. We also cannot do this alone, our help must come from the Lord. By His Holy Spirit we are led, taught, and corrected.

Evaluate your lives, your works, your heart. Since we are saved by grace, let us now work to face our Lord and delight in hearing: “Well done good and faithful servant”.

Grace and Peace.
