Would Your Faith Save You?

November 12, 2015

Luke 7:50

Then He said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you. Go in peace.”

This verse is pulled from a story where Luke describes a woman who was crying, and washing the feet of Jesus with her tears and fragrant oil. While religious leaders stood by, thinking they are not sinful enough to be near this woman or be crying at the feet of Jesus.

The Bible called her a sinner, so in our worldly, quick to judge minds, she would be an outcast. At least in the realm of being worthy of God.

Yet, Jesus saw something very different then the religious leaders that day, and something very different then we see in our day-to-day assessments of people, and ourselves.

Jesus saw a woman broken, and desperate for a Savior.

Jesus saw whole-hearted, repentant faith. The type of faith the Lord Jesus Christ wants from all of us.

Faith that is no longer ashamed and keeps sin locked away.

Faith that does not care what people think or say.

Faith that only desires to be near Jesus, to please Him, and to bring Him all the glory.

This woman saw Jesus as a greater joy than her sin.

Men, sin looks good on the surface, it can be so tempting. Yet, that path leads to death. The Bible says, the wages of sin is death (Romans 3). It will never pay off in the way you think.

Men I encourage you today, to desire the kind of faith that saves! The kind of faith the makes you leave all to follow Jesus. Leave anything that is stopping you from loving Jesus and following Him the way He desires.

Put yourself in the shoes of this woman, would your faith bring you to the feet of Jesus, broken in tears, in front of all your closest friends and people you look up to? Or does your pride push you to remain with the mindset of the religious leaders that day?

If you’re not there today, and want to be, ask God from the depths your heart and soul.

Jesus says if you seek me, you will find me, if you search for me with all your heart (Jeremiah 29).
