Testing, Correction and Fruit Bearing

October 5, 2015

Good Morning Men!

This morning I couldn’t decide which verse would be more important to share. All three of these verses have something to share. Maybe one of them will speak directly to you, or if your like me all three may find a place in your heart for reflection, correction and application.

Psalm 139:23-24

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me, and know my anxieties;
24 And see if there is any wicked way in me,
And lead me in the way everlasting.

Have you ever asked God to search your heart? To try you? If you haven’t because you never thought of it, great; if you haven’t because your scared what He may find; all the more this verse needs attention from you.

There is no point in following Jesus if you do not want Him to search you, to know your heart, and even more so, to find any wickedness in you. If this is you, honestly seek the Lord and plead with Him to help you get to this place of freedom.

Psalm 141:5

Let the righteous strike me;
It shall be a kindness.
And let him rebuke me;
It shall be as excellent oil;
Let my head not refuse it.

How many of you like to be corrected? I would say there is a select few that really like being corrected.

Because it tugs really hard on those strings of pride. Pride does all kinds of nasty to our heart and relationships. Again, if we are to be followers of Jesus Christ, if you have been trying to grow in your relationship with Jesus Christ you must be correctable, and not easily offended.

This verse has a few giveaways. The righteous should do the striking. Strikes usually refer to pain, which most likely the pain affects our pride, but in the end it should be kindness. The righteous, for lack of a lengthy explanation, must be a mature believer in Jesus Christ. This rebuke if it does come from a righteous heart of love, will convict us to allow God’s Holy Spirit (excellent oil) to work in us.

Matthew 21:18-19

18 Now in the morning, as He returned to the city, He was hungry. 19 And seeing a fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it but leaves, and said to it, “Let no fruit grow on you ever again.” Immediately the fig tree withered away.

What does Jesus care that some fig tree had no figs?

Well my friends, this is an example of our heart and lives.

If this tree has fig leaves, fig branches, fig tree height, shape and color. Well then it should be doing its purpose of bearing figs.

The same goes for every Christian. If you claim to be a Christian, and you either have no desire to bear fruit, or you have no fruit being produced from the way you live, talk and act…well, obviously Jesus is not very fond of this type of living.

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and self-control (Gal. 5:22-23). Are these fruits or traits a part of your life? Do you handle situations with these fruits resembling.

Although we are not perfect, are you improving, or trying to improve in these areas?

Men, be honest with yourselves. Put your deeds and thoughts to the test of these scriptures. It may be painful for a moment but the joy and fruit produced will be everlasting.
