What is Your Hunger?

August 11, 2015

John 6:35

And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.

As I was searching for a particular verse this morning for my brother, the Lord led me to this verse. My little brother was arrested yesterday, and my heart was broken for him and the current state of his life.

The Lord was pressing my heart as I was reading His Word this morning to find a verse for him. The Holy Spirit was leading me through a scenario, if he were to have called me this morning, what verse would I share with him? Knowing that he is far from God, and may want no part of the Bible; knowing that at any second he may hang up, what verse would I choose?

Let me share why I feel this verse would be perfect for that scenario, and may be perfect for were your at.

Every single one of us is searching for something, some of us know what that is. Some of us don’t. We all have desires, wants, dreams and goals…aka hungers and thirsts.

If you were to honestly write down your five greatest desires (“hungers and thirsts”), what would they be?

Is Jesus in that top 5? Is growing in your relationship with God in that top 5?

According to scripture, He should be number 1. Not a close second. Not tied for first. But far and above the rest. If He is not, you will always hunger and thirst for more, new, different, bigger and so on. Sound familiar?

Jesus when asked what was the greatest commandment said; “you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” (Matthew 22:37)

Many of you may already know this; so lets say you want this but don’t know how.

I’m glad you asked!

Jesus says to “seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you“(Matthew 6:33). Jesus also teaches us that we need more than physical food to live. We need spiritual food, we get that from the Word of God. Jesus says, “man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4).

Now lets tie all of this together, the disciples asked Jesus how He would show himself to them, or reveal himself as the Son of God. Jesus answered them and said that if anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him…he who does not love Me does not keep My words. (John 14:22-24)

May the Lord richly bless you with ears to hear, and eyes to see and a heart to receive.
