70 Billion Trillion

June 3, 2015

Psalm 147: 4-5, 10-11

He counts the number of the stars;
He calls them all by name.
Great is our Lord, and mighty in power;
His understanding is infinite.

10 He does not delight in the strength of the horse;
He takes no pleasure in the legs of a man.
11 The Lord takes pleasure in those who fear Him,
In those who hope in His mercy.

70 Billion Trillion, or 7 x 10 to the 22 power.

That is how many stars have been recorded, roughly in the universe.

How many of you knew that God has the head count of every star in the universe!? If that doesn’t impress you…He gave them all a name!!

That absolutely floors me, especially the name part…wow. I have a hard time remembering a few people’s names.

How about a God so mighty and powerful with an infinite amount of understanding? Yes, another wow! My understanding of things is so limited. The other day, my five-year old asked me a question, about why God lets some people know Him, and others, He doesn’t.

That was not only beyond my understanding, but beyond my capabilities of clarifying that for a five-year old.

The strength of the horse…the horse in these times was known and made for battle. Strong horses, made strong legs, which made strong fighters, which made strong kings and kingdoms. Although most of us don’t ride horses into our struggles and battles, we have found many ways to put our strength and hope in anything but God.

The thing we have mixed up is, this doesn’t impress God. God does not desire us to be strong in our own strength and abilities.

Today our society and culture is feeding us and our children the lie, that you are capable of doing anything you want. You control your own destiny, and you alone must do whatever makes you happy. This is a half-truth.

The God of the universe, Yahweh, as the Bible refers to Him, counts the stars and names them. This same God has an infinite amount of understanding for every thing in your heart, mind and life. God takes no pleasure in you accomplishing things on your own strength. The Lord wants you to fear Him as God and to remain anchored to the hope of His mercy and redemptive promises. The promises start and end with the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.

This same Jesus teaches us something from His Word that He wants us to decide on:

Luke 9:23

Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.
