John 7:38

“…He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”

The Holy Spirit is the central theme and focus of this passage. The Bible has tons to say about the Holy Spirit, but basically as Christians we believe that when you give your life to Jesus Christ; the Holy Spirit now comes into your heart.

To those of you that are still searching, and those of you that are new at this; this may sound weird. Basically the Bible teaches us that we are dead in our sins (John 8:21,24). Only when we surrender our lives to Jesus, by believing in our heart that He is Lord, and confessing with our mouth are we born again. We basically say, God I no longer want to be the lord of my life, but I trust you and everything your Word says, and I want you to be my Lord.

Once the Spirit of God comes in you (usually nothing crazy, can’t even feel it), it begins to change and transform the way you think and act (that is the proof, your mind is changing). It takes time, it’s a process and it will be a work in progress until the day you die.

However the verse above gives a very important characteristic of the Christian believer who truly is following the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” What does this look like?

Well in short, as God continues to transform our mind and hearts, we should be falling more in love with God and His Word. The assurance of this, is that you have an increasing desire for others to hear and see the truth as you are now learning it.

Are you concerned with the souls of your family? Your co-workers? Your friends? Acquaintances? How about strangers along your paths? How about your enemies?

If you said yes to any of these, what are you doing about it!?

As you grow in Christ, this rivers of living water increase. It may start as a trickle, and continue to increase as you increase in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ.

The goal is to someday have the heart of God. Where God says in His Word that He wants ALL men to be saved (1 Timothy 2:4)!

Father God for all of us that want rivers of living water flowing from their heart, may you guide and produce that outpouring of your Holy Spirit. That we all would hunger, and labor so that for the those that don’t know you. So we can do everything, so that some will be saved. In Jesus Name, and all God’s children say…Amen!
