Heavenly Wisdom versus Demonic Wisdom

April 17, 2015

James 3:16-17

16 For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. 17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.

In this passage from verses 13-18, James is describing the difference between heavenly wisdom and demonic wisdom.

Pulling out the above verses where the meat of the lesson is…however feel free to read the passage to get the full context.

Wisdom is something we need so desperately in every situation in life. I believe we actually take it for granted most of the time and don’t realize the need for wisdom in our everyday transactions. We are so used to acting in our own strength, or following the crowd.

We must be on guard when we are on either ends of wisdom; giving or receiving.

Is there any envy in our hearts, or any self-seeking interest? Most times there are if we are completely honest especially when wisdom or “opinion” is asked of us.

Wisdom from above, in other words God’s wisdom, is pure, peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality or hypocrisy.

That seems like a long checklist to meet in order to qualify as Godly Wisdom, but it is worth every bit of it.

Seek these things in your conversations. Ask God to help you look for these things, to be able to provide this type of wisdom. Listen to conversations, arguments and look for these things. They are usually easy to spot out, especially when we review our previous devotions about the true conditions of mans heart.

Now search your own heart, make sure your thoughts and your actions align with the heavenly wisdom of God. Allow your words to speak life, bring hope and be a blessing to every ear and heart you encounter.
