In the Beginning

Romans 4:9-12 NLT

10 But how did this happen? Was he counted as righteous only after he was circumcised, or was it before he was circumcised? Clearly, God accepted Abraham before he was circumcised!…

12 And Abraham is also the spiritual father of those who have been circumcised, but only if they have the same kind of faith Abraham had before he was circumcised.

For those of you that want to dig a little deeper and get the full context, it would benefit you to read from verses 1-12.

However, in a nutshell we are talking about the faith of Abraham. Abraham, as verse 12 says is the spiritual father of Christians ( I believe the Jews also but we wont get into that today).

Abraham was the first man who believed on the promises of God. Abraham was the first to live out his faith in the deliverance of God’s words and because of this, his faith was “accounted to him for righteousness” (Romans 4:3).

Circumcision was a command God gave Abraham (Abram). Instead of getting into the circumcision, I wanted to expand on the fact that the righteousness came before the law. Or in simpler terms, faith came before works.

Many souls are confused today, whether in Christianity or outside of Christianity. The lie is that in order for someone to receive eternal life, they must perform certain works, tasks or rituals. The Bible is absolutely clear that this is not so, but man has found ways to twist this.

For Abraham to have his faith accounted to him for righteousness, is another way of saying he was saved by the Grace of God. Faith came before salvation.

The other morning as I was reading this the Lord pressed something else on my heart in regards to this equation of faith coming first.

The Bible references several times on how God was before all things we see and know today (Gen. 1:1, John 1:1). Which means that Christianity is tied all the way back to the start of time as we know it. Or, contrary to popular belief, it is tied back to the start of creation. In other words our faith came first.

Every other religion of the world today is the opposite. Somewhere along the time line of history a man, or a figure decided to speak on some type of divine revelation and create some type of religion. Think about every other religion out there, the foundation of that religion stems back to a man or diety, not the beginning of time with God.

So my question is, What about all the people who were born before this man was born or deity create, or before this man created this religion and system of beliefs, is everyone prior just out of the equation?

In the beginning God…God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. All three always have been and always will be. God is the first and the last. The alpha and omega. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. In the beginning was the Word. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. All of these statements are from the Bible, look them up.

I know this type of conversation opens up many doors for questions, most of which truly will not be answered in your mind unless your heart remains open to the truth of God’s Holy Word. If you have questions I would encourage you to search for the answers. The Bible has them.

2 Timothy 3:16 NLT

16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.

Amen!!! So true. We believe in a God that was from the beginning. The creator of ALL things. The first and the last, the beginning and the end.
