God’s Perfect Law

January 2, 2015

Psalm 19:7

The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;

The other day I sent out an email titled ‘Hell’s best kept secret’. Pastor Ray Comfort opened up that sermon with the above verse. Both have been on my heart a lot since I listened to the message and I wanted to share some thoughts and scripture with you.

For those of us that believe in Jesus Christ, and more specifically for those of us that claim to be Christians; why have we chosen to believe or why have we chosen to be a Christian?

Our answers can all be funneled into two categories:

The first is that we heard that Jesus can give us a better life here on earth.

The second is that we are afraid of facing God’s wrath and judgement when when die.

Not only are these two reasons extremely different, but the fruit of one mindset over the other will have very drastic differences.

Lets look at a parable Jesus used in describing the soil of our hearts. So far we are talking about three of the four soils Jesus describes in the parable of the sower.

Let me paraphrase the parable then I will let scripture explain it.

Matthew 13:1-8 (emphasis mine)

So there was a farmer who went out to scatter his seed. This seed as it was being scattered fell on four different soils. But lets focus on three of the four. Some of the seed fell on stony places, with little soil. These seeds sprang up quickly, but as the heat of the day wore on, with very small roots, these plants quickly withered. Other seed fell among thorns, growing together with the thorns. Eventually the thorns began to choke out the good plants. Then some of the seed fell on good soil. Theses seeds yielded generous crops that endured.

Here is the explanation by Jesus:

Matthew 13:20-23

20 “But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; 21 yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles.

22 Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.

23 But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”

What are you hanging on to Jesus for?

Men don’t hang on to Jesus for this life. You are absolutely wasting your time. There is a day of judgement coming for each and every one of us. Know that all will stand face to face with the God of the universe, and all will be judged by a holy, righteous and perfect God. God will see right through any lukewarm, fake and idle life.

Hebrews 9:27-28

27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, 28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.

Look at verse 27, everybody dies then everybody faces judgement. Since nobody is promised tomorrow, are you not only ready to die today but face God in judgement?
