Have You Put God in a Box?

December 26, 2014

Matthew 8:13

Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go your way; and as you have believed, so let it be done for you.” And his servant was healed that same hour.

Merry Christmas to all of you this morning! I hope that you all had a great time of love and fellowship with your family and friends.

I wanted to share this verse, it stood out to me in my last devotion, and then popped back up this morning in Matthew 9:22;

But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her He said, “Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And the woman was made well from that hour.

We are obviously dealing with faith here, but what kind of faith?

I like to keep it simple and just call this Big Faith. God is so big, so powerful and so sovereign that in reality we truly cannot fathom it. That is why in Isaiah 55 God says that His ways and His thoughts are higher than ours. We will never be able to fully grasp the greatness of God in this life.

So where do we start? For me the first step is to consistently stop putting God in a box. What I mean by that is, we must stop limiting God. We have the tendency to look at an impossible situation and to start to convince ourselves that it’s to big and to complicated so it probably cannot be done. But why does Jesus tell us in Matthew 19, “with God all things are possible”?

The centurion in Matthew 8 did not put God in the same box everyone else did. The centurion told Jesus that He did not even have to come to his house to heal his servant, he took away the box and said in verse 8; ” But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed”. Jesus was so amazed that he says in verse 10; “Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!”

All God’s people, the Jews all through Israel had put Jesus in the box of, if you can get Him to your house then you can get healing power. It is truly a tragedy when we limit God in such ways.

What situations in life are you faced with? What do you need Big Faith for? Have you been placing the Sovereign, Omnipotent, Omniscient, All Knowing, All Powerful God in your box of limitations?

Men, we must grow in the knowledge and grace of Jesus Christ everyday. This happens by reading His Word and applying it in our lives.

By doing this we start to learn more of Gods heart and His Will for our lives. That way when we have desires or dreams we can compare it and line it up to His Word. When it aligns, there will only be one thing that stops us…our faith.

Remove your box. Grow in Him daily. Pray and seek God first. Simple recipe for a Godly life full of His joyous, everlasting fruit!

    Amen!!! I pray that all of our faith’s in Christ will continue to grow and develop into a strong personal relationship with Jesus.

  3. You saying “It is truly a tragedy when we limit God in such ways.” does us understand that you take Jesus to be God and by doing so are limiting god Himself, which is even worse than limiting Jesus, who is the son of God and a son of man.

  4. Amen guestspeaker!!
