Learn to Wait on the LORD

December 13, 2014

Psalm 130: 5-6

I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,
And in His word I do hope.
My soul waits for the Lord
More than those who watch for the morning—
Yes, more than those who watch for the morning.

God will answer every prayer you pray…according to His Word. I heard it recently said in a sermon, that God will never answer a prayer that will allow you to increase the work of Satan in your life. God knows whats best for us, and it almost always is the complete opposite of what we think is best for us.

Which brings up the topic of waiting, or in other words being patient.

I read this Psalm a few days ago and it has constantly been on my heart. Waiting on God is not my strong point, in fact maybe some of you can relate to that. When we want something, we want it now, we are basically big babies that through fits in our minds…well sometimes more than that.

But the Psalmist makes an amazing declaration of his faith here. I was blown away to see the faith, patience, and trust in this Psalmist.

The Psalmist says “I wait for the Lord”, to me that spoke of his mental state. Mentally he is not going to get ahead of himself and start to force the hand.

“My soul waits”, the Psalmist has complete peace in his mind, heart and soul, to trust and wait on the Lord. In fact so much so, that he repeats it again right after. Repeated statements in the Bible are to express and solidify an important point.

Those that watch for the morning – Yes those that watch for the morning. Wow!

This really spoke to me, living in Kailua-Kona we have beautiful sunsets and every clear night you can drive by almost any tourist area and you will see tons of people watching the sunset. Enjoying the beauty of a sunset in its fading glory. But they watch it with all confidence, expecting it to fade beyond the horizon, every single time. They just know it is going to be buried by the horizon. They never question, maybe this time it wont go down. Absolutely not, every single time you watch a sunset, it will be buried by the horizon until tomorrow.

So I am sure people on eastern borders do the same with a sunrise. You expect it.

Do we do this with God’s Word? With God’s Promises? Do you sit there absorbing His Word and His Promises for whatever circumstance you are in? Do you have the confidence, faith and trust in God Almighty that just as guarantee as a sunrise or sunset, do we have that confidence that His Word will prove itself in time.

Men, God is faithful. Many times we don’t see this faithfulness because we force His hand and fall short of that sunrise or sunset.

We must learn to trust and believe in His Word, so that we will wait on Him, and our soul will wait on Him.
