What is Your Priorities?

December 4, 2014

Matthew 6:33 NLT

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

Good Morning Guys!

I recently watched a sermon titled Time of Your Life by Andy Stanley. The illustration from the video above was used for what we do with our time. Although this video was done by a guy that wasn’t necessarily involving God, I thought it still drove the point home.

As Christians our priorities are pretty much the same as the world, except what is supposed to be our first priority and that is God.

God must be first in our lives. When Jesus was asked what the greatest commandment was, this was His reply:

Matthew 22:37 NLT

Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’

So our first rock and biggest rock is Jesus Christ. Starting everyday, with God is putting Him first. Carving out just a few minutes of your precious time to spend with God each day, will set the foundation for the rest of your day. Spending a few minutes in prayer, thanking God for the things in your life, and also asking for guidance, strength or comfort. For whatever season you are in.

Our next big rock is our wives.

Ephesians 5:26 NLT

For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her…

Jesus not only gave us everything He could, but He gave up everything He had. Husbands, do you have this mindset with your wives? If not we should, daily! Remember Luke 9:23?

Our third big rock is our children, whether they live with you or not.

Deuteronomy 6:7 NLT

Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.

Verses 4-9 of this chapter give us a biblical command, example and illustration on how fervently we must teach our children about the love, grace and mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ. Our children are growing up in a world saturated with things that will pull them away from the ways of God’s Word and His commands. If you are not consistent, intentional, and disciplined in this, your children will have a difficult time following Jesus.

After this the rocks become a lot more personalized. Men let’s use our precious time on this earth wisely. The Bible describes our time here as a vapor, and a shadow. Every year seems to be going by faster and faster, I can’t believe 2014 is almost over.

Lets close with this:

Psalm 90:12 NLT

Teach us to realize the brevity of life,
so that we may grow in wisdom.

Psalm 90-12 says it all. Our lives are so short. Are we going to live for the world and for the now, or for the Lord and for eternity? I choose for the Lord and for eternity.
