Wake Up

November 25, 2014

Romans 13:11-14 NLT

11 This is all the more urgent, for you know how late it is; time is running out. Wake up, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.

12 The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes, and put on the shining armor of right living.

13 Because we belong to the day, we must live decent lives for all to see. Don’t participate in the darkness of wild parties and drunkenness, or in sexual promiscuity and immoral living, or in quarreling and jealousy.

14 Instead, clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. And don’t let yourself think about ways to indulge your evil desires.

Good Morning Men!

I thought this was a great compliment to yesterday’s topic on salvation.

V.11 It’s safe to say that we all see things getting worse as a whole in the world around us. As each day passes the time becomes more urgent. Time is running out. The Bible clearly and explicitly repeats how the Lord Jesus Christ will return at an hour that no one expects (Matthew 24:36-37). The Bible says, as it was in the days of Noah, so it shall be when the Jesus returns. So this verse is commanding us, that if we are spiritually sleeping we must get our hearts and minds right with God.

V.12 I love the visual of removing dark deeds like dirty clothes. I think about when my clothes get soiled at work, especially with blood from a bad car accident, I not only remove it very carefully. But I take every measure to cleanse and remove and discard every item that has been soiled. We must remove our wicked ways in the same manner.

V.13 My favorite verse to live this is Matthew 5:13, Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in Heaven.

V.14 When we remove dark deeds, when we remove something (or things) in our lives, something is going to want to take that void. Especially us men, we may stop working so much, or stop working a second job so we can be with our families more. Rather than strategically planning this out, bathing it in prayer, we just do it. Next thing we find is we have a new hobby or toy that will now rob us of that time that was meant for our family. BUT, When we clothe ourselves with Jesus, he becomes the center of our lives and if we allow HIM, He fills EVERY void.

When we start our day with Him, We may get off track through the day, but He is always there waiting for you to turn to Him, to seek His guidance and wisdom. Remember this:

Proverbs 16:9 NLT

We can make our plans,
but the Lord determines our steps.

Wake up to Jesus. Grow in Jesus.
