The Veil of Today

November 10, 2014

2 Corinthians 4:1-7 NLT

Blind-2-Corinthians-4-verses-3-6-KJV

Therefore, since God in his mercy has given us this new way,we never give up. We reject all shameful deeds and underhanded methods. We don’t try to trick anyone or distort the word of God. We tell the truth before God, and all who are honest know this.

If the Good News we preach is hidden behind a veil, it is hidden only from people who are perishing. Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.

You see, we don’t go around preaching about ourselves. We preach that Jesus Christ is Lord, and we ourselves are your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ.

We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.

As I was looking for a verse to connect the things that have been on my heart and mind, I was led to verse 3, but this whole passage just kept connecting dots for me and I wanted to just put the whole chapter, so hopefully you guys will hunger for me and finish it.

To stay on track, I was thinking about friends of mine that do not know the Lord, and I was thinking about how big, sovereign and powerful my God is. I do this often and I am broken-hearted for men that do not know Christ. Because I know how much He has done for me, how much God has radically transformed the way I think and live for His glory. I just yearn for this for so many people.

God just comforted my heart and led me to see and believe that He has control of every heart. If God so chooses, He could lift any veil, or remove any callous from any heart.

V.1 As verse 1 shows it starts with us though, we must acknowledge and believe in the mercy God has expressed towards us. By His mercy alone, we that believe have had our hearts open to the truth of God’s Word.

V. 2 Then in verse 2, as we grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ, we start to live and speak His Word in whole-truth. We don’t use scripture to fit our lifestyles, we treat scripture as one whole unit, not picking and choosing what works for us to keep certain lifestyles or behaviors.

V.3 The Gospel of Jesus Christ is a mystery, it is foolishness to the world, that’s why this verse says that it is veiled. The world does not see the truth and power behind the promises of God.

V.4 Satan runs the show on this world, not because he is all-powerful, but for some reason far greater than any of our understanding, God has allowed it. Because of that, this earthly home is temporary for us that believe in Jesus Christ, so we don’t live for this life, rather we live for the life to come, the life that is promised for those who believe in Jesus Christ. And this way we hope that the light of Christ that lives in us, will shine and remove the veils of those around us.

V.5 Today everything is about self, selfies, and being happy for yourself. As Christians we must stand up against those lies and deceitful ways. Men, the father of lies, the devil, wants to destroy you and everything you cherish. Do not live for yourself. Matthew 16:24, teaches us that we must deny ourselves and take up our cross in order to be a disciple of Christ. Live for Christ and He will align your path.

V.6 God has called us to be light in this dark world, not so we can have blessings on earth but so we may truly know the glory of God and by this knowledge we may live a live that is blameless and others will want some of it.

V.7 Men its very dangerous when you start to walk with God and things start to get a little smoother, the mountains are not so high, the valleys are not so low, and in our hearts we say: look what I have done! Wrong! Men we must always remember that we are nothing without Christ. Do you have control over tomorrow? Absolutely not. We are one doctor visit away from tragedy, one car ride away from devastation; Live each day in reverent fear and humility in Christ. Knowing that in your weakness, Christ is made strong!
