How to Cleanse Your Way

October 31, 2014

Psalm 119:9-16

How can a young man cleanse his way?

By taking heed according to Your word.

In my reading plan, we have come into the biggest chapter in the Bible, Psalm 119. These Psalm is filled with many beautiful, and powerful verses but I wanted to share a passage with you. This passage has shown me nine ways that we has men, can cleanse our way. Or in other words, become more and more like the man God truly wants us to be.

  • 1. The first answer to this question is to take heed to God’s Word. In other words we must watch, obey, observe or retain God’s Holy Word. It must be a big part of our lives, not just to read casually but to allow it to sink in and renew our heart and mind.

10 With my whole heart I have sought You;

Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments!

  • 2. We must be Sold Out for Jesus Christ. Let’s not be fence riders, but in order to truly taste and see that the Lord is good we must submit to Him completely.
  • 3. We must resist temptations. You know what makes you stumble, wander from God or flat-out sin. Run from it.

11 Your word I have hidden in my heart,

That I might not sin against You.

  • 4. We must study God’s Word. How can we know that it is God teaching us things if we are not reading His manual? If we try to just live a “good” life by our own standard, we basically say, ‘my judgement is just as good as God’s’.

12 Blessed are You, O Lord!
Teach me Your statutes.

  • 5. We must have humble hearts, hearts that are receptive to be taught even when we don’t like it. Without this type of heart you will not grow, and you will just go in circles.

13 With my lips I have declared

All the judgments of Your mouth.

  • 6.  We must Praise Him in all we do. When things go good it’s easy, but when things don’t go our way, we must learn to Praise Him and believe that He has a greater plan.

14 I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies,
As much as in all riches.

  • 7. We must not only Praise God, but we must praise His ways, that unfold through us making good decisions. Good decisions don’t always end up the way we want it, but we must learn to Praise His ways.

15 I will meditate on Your precepts,

And contemplate Your ways.

  • 8. We must be in constant thought and communication with our Heavenly Father; this is called prayer. The Bible says to never cease praying.

16 I will delight myself in Your statutes;
I will not forget Your word.

  • 9.  The Word of God needs to be more than a good book. It must be our life focus, to teach us in all things according to God’s standard and infinite wisdom.
