Hot, Cold…or Lukewarm?

October 17, 2014

Revelation 3:14-18

14 “And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write,

‘These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God: 15 “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. 16 So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. 17 Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked…

Yesterday at work me and one of our brothers in this ministry were talking about marriage and God and stuff and this verse came up. I asked him where he felt he stood on this temperature scale.

I believe that this is a question we all must constantly ask ourselves…

where do you stand?

Are you hot, or on fire for Jesus Christ? In other words, do you revolve your life around Jesus Christ? Is He truly first in your life? Is their fruit that shows this? The Bible teaches us that the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, mercy, gentleness and longsuffering. How you doing in those areas?

Are you cold? I’m pretty sure not to many of us are actually here. If your reading this your probably not cold. But this is a great option of your not into the hot thing!

As for lukewarm…the problem with this area is that it is the largest group and most comfortable. I believe most of us are probably in this zone.

As we can see, the Lord Jesus Christ is not happy with the lukewarm christian. That is a very heavy reaction, “to vomit you out of My mouth”.

Men the Christian walk takes discipline. It doesn’t come easy, and it doesn’t come over night. We must work at it.

Just as you would with your wife, girlfriend, or best friend; spend time with God. He longs to spend time with you, and it truly is the only way to grow in our walks with Him. The more time you spend with Him in prayer and in the Word the more He will speak to your heart. Convicting you of sin in your life, teaching you how to handle that sin, turn from that sin and turn to Him.

Questions to ask yourself, and be really honest with yourself:

1. Do I love God with all my heart, all my mind, and all my strength?

– through your day, what consumes your thoughts more; the things of God, or the things of self and this world?

2. Is there unrepentant sin in my life?

– in other words are doing something that deep down you know is wrong, but you are choosing to either justify it or ignore it?

3. Am I daily working on my relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ?

– how often do you pray for others? spend time in your Bible? serve others before yourself?

When must constantly evaluate ourselves. If we don’t we get stagnant and lukewarm. Jesus Christ is all we need. He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. He created everything we know, and everything we know is coming to an end. Then what?

Christ is Enough.

These few verses are so powerful and descriptive. Everytime I read them it really makes me think about where my walk with Christ truly is.
