Are You Sealed?

2 Timothy 2:19

19 Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

Good Morning Men!

I just read through this chapter and this verse jumped out at me, and was solidified through verses 26.

Do you consider yourself a chosen child of God?

If yes, then:

Are you sealed in Christ Jesus?

Paul, through inspiration of the Holy Spirit makes it very clear what we need to do.

If we name the name of Christ, if we call ourselves Christians, if we profess to be believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, then we must depart or turn from our iniquity, also known as sin!

Of course we all have slip ups, stumbles and falls, this is referring to the sin in your life that is in direct conflict with the Word of God. It is also something you may be choosing to ignore or justify in order continue it.

Here are a few examples:

Verse 22, says to flee youthful lusts. Especially for us men, this is a common downfall. The temptations around us men are endless, we must flee from sexual immorality. The Bible says if we look at a woman lustfully, we are committing adultery. That is a heavy bar that Jesus set, but remember temptations are not sin, but how we act or react , what we think, or how long we entertain the thoughts in the temptation is the key.

Verse 23 says to avoid foolish and ignorant disputes. This basically generalizes gossiping, slander or any type of negative talk that does not bring honor to the Lord.

James 3 talks about the untamable tongue, in verse 10 James speaks of how blessing and cursing should not come out of the same mouth. Verse 11 gives the analogy of a fresh water spring that also produces bitter water, this would be absurd. Same as our words.

Verse 24 says we must not quarrel, and then speaks of being gentle to all, able to teach, patient and in humility correcting those who are in opposition. This speaks about as we grow in the knowledge and grace of the Lord Jesus, we are not to argue our points, beliefs and opinions with everyone that doesn’t believe what we do. Rather we are to gently, and lovingly teach people in opposition about the grace and love of our Lord. It’s hard to teach about grace if we are getting angry and offended.

Men, lets keep seeking the Lord with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength. Lets turn from sin by fleeing lustful thoughts and actions, lets purify our mouths by starting to keep them shut and pure, rather than jumping in or even starting negative conversations that would not honor the Lord. And finally, teach people about the Love of Christ, share our testimony in Love not in offense.

Have a great day in the LORD!
