Live to Please God

August 24, 2014

1 Timothy 4

1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer…

For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come. This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance…

11 These things command and teach.

Jesus First

Good Morning Men!

This verse says that in the latter times…there will be a commanding to abstain from foods.

If you understand prophecy within the Bible, and you have been following a fraction of the events that are going on around the world, you would probably agree that we are in this time, also known as “the latter days”.

There has not been any commanding to abstain from foods in general, but there sure does seem to be a transition into the healthy, organic, non-GMO  type of diets that are definitely gaining major headway and popularity…and for very good reason. Without turning this message into a novel, in no way is scripture saying these things are bad in and of them self.

The danger comes when we put ourselves in bondage and start to believe that something God created for us to eat and enjoy is now bad for us, and even worse not Christian like. Let’s also not get this confused with medical needs, or just plain old likes and dislikes. The Word is also not saying that eating healthy is bad, because scripture tells us that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and we must glorify God in our body and in our Spirit ( 1 Corinthians 6:19-20). The danger comes when we start to uphold certain diets, or create certain restrictions based off of the ways and mindset of the world.

So the main point here is not so much about the food and the diet, it’s more about the motives, reasons and mindset behind a certain way of eating. For example if I only eat vegetables and healthy natural foods and do so because, number one God pressed it on my heart, and also because I feel that this natural diet helps me be more connected with God that’s fine. But if I start to think now that all other Christians who do not do this are less than me, or not as strong in their walks with God as me, now I have a major problem.

Now lets combine this with verse 8.

Let’s get it straight, we all need exercise, and we all should be trying to take care of our bodies, again in order to fulfill 1 Corinthians 6 from above. Although exercise can be amazing physically, it can be toxic for our spirit man if we do not get this verse right.

This verse is pretty much self-explanatory; exercise has some benefits in your life, but godliness, or living a life that is pleasing to God with Jesus Christ at the center benefits everything in this life and everything for eternity.

Heavenly Father, may you impress upon every eye and every heart that reads this to take a good look at these areas in our lives and make sure that we are doing all things in thanksgiving and praise to YOU. May you help us to not live under any type of bondage in regards to food, may You also helps us to live for You first, and fight to keep the balance and correct ratio of bodily exercise and godliness. In Jesus Name we pray, Amen!!
