Eat As Much As You Can!!

July 19, 2014

Matthew 4:4

But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.

This morning I want to share something God spoke on my heart as I was reading through Proverbs 19.

As many of you know the Proverbs are filled with wisdom that can be applied to every facet of our lives. Let’s call this ‘Kinetic Wisdom’! Great habit to read a proverb a day, for each calendar day.

Anyways, The verse above is trying to point us to the realization that we need more than food to survive. Without getting too deep, the Bible basically teaches that without Christ we are dead in our transgressions, aka sins. When we find Christ we find life!

One way to find Christ is through His Word, the Bible. But the primary way of growing in the Grace and Knowledge of Jesus Christ is by reading His Word. So Jesus in this verse, is basically saying: in order to truly live we need the Words of Life, or we need the Words of the Bible in our lives.

When we eat, we know that some foods are better than others, in taste, in nutrients and in usefulness. Although we all know that no matter what you eat, everything is processed and has some kind of effect on the body. The more food we eat, the more calories we consume, therefore in theory the more weight we may put on. Even if the food is healthy and good for you, it still has calories, which in turn is fuel that is either stored or burned (lets stick to stored analogies for now)  in your body.

SO, what if we take that same approach with the Word of God!?

Not only if we make a daily meal out of it, but what happens to us spiritually if we consume as much as we can?

Constantly snacking on the Word, having large sit down meals of the Word, one course, two course or five course meals of God’s Word. Some chapters or books are more edible, they go down much easier, some are a little more difficult. Some we know have obvious benefits for our heart and mind, while others may confuse us and can even place doubt, kind of like bad calories, temporarily; until we can burn them off through growth.

Would this not make spiritually healthy and plump Christians!? I am convinced it would!

Brothers make the Word of God a priority in your life. Have large meals, have constant snacks, eat everything, even when you are not hungry!  Don’t worry if you don’t see the results instantly. It takes time to put on weight, to build muscle and to grow physically; so the same for our Spirit Man!

Heavenly Father May you bless every eye, and every ear that reads, hears and understands this message. May you give a voracious appetite for your Holy, Precious, Living and Powerful Word of God. In Jesus Name, Amen!

Amen!!! Reading God’s Word is fuel for our bodies and souls. Without it we’ll grow weak, but with it we’ll grow strong in the LORD and not only grow closer to our Savior, but also have the fuel and tools to fight those fiery darts of temptation that the devil throws at us.
