Is your work pleasing to the LORD?

June 19, 2014

Ecclesiastes 9:10

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going.

Everything in God’s Word regarding working, work ethic and effort all points to working hard. Working in a way were you stand out, not for your glory, but to bring glory and honor to the Lord. Recently I overheard some talk at work of a guy who was being bashed for his work ethic, in fact I hear that quite often about various individuals.

Men, God wants us to be the hardest workers in everything we do. I know it’s hard. I do not always work as hard as I should. I round corners, I have lazy days, I am not the best at what I do. But I know those things, and I am actively working on those things. We must be honest with ourselves in our evaluation of our work ethic, our integrity at work and the example we are leaving.

Colossians 3:23 NIV

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters

Lets be the light in our workplaces. Lets put every effort to be the hardest workers, the best at what we do, and most importantly as you start to succeed and God starts to lift you up, be humble. Remember that God gives grace to the humble but opposes the proud. So if your work ethic, skill, or talent begins to puff you up, God will slam you.

The best way to avoid this is to keep your motivation in Christ. To keep your desires and heart pure. If you are obeying Col. 3:23, you will be fine. But if secretly in your heart you are doing it for yourself, you will FAIL.

The Bible teaches us to let our light shine, so men may see our good deeds and praise our father in heaven. Let it shine men, glorify God, let others see Christ in you. Our work is a form of worship. Worship God with holy hands, and with all your heart and watch God do amazing things in the hearts and minds of those around you.

  1. Great post and great advice.

    • Thank you very much! It would be so amazing if the bride of Christ really grabbed a hold of this mindset and ran with it!

  2. Great post. Sometimes we forget that we are to keep our light shinning at all times. Show other people how Jesus works through us.

We spend at least 8 hours at our workplaces, sometimes more. What a great opportunity to share the gospel with our co-workers and shine the light of Christ on them.

    • Amen! Its no accident we are where we are!! God has a greater plan and purpose! Only by God’s Spirit can we continually abide in Him and His Will!
