Pray for your Children

June 9, 2014

Deuteronomy 6:5-9

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Parents, how many of you pray for your kids? I mean really pray, pray over specific things, things that have eternal and everlasting impacts. Praying daily, frequently and with passion and conviction.

God has given us children, so that we can raise them to know of Him, to teach them the truth and power of what our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has done for all. Then we hope by living out these truths in our own lives, our children will see that, and make a personal decision on their own, when they are mature enough to understand that they too want to surrender their life to Jesus Christ.

Prayer is our behind the scenes battleground for our children. Why is this so important? Well the Bible teaches us that the prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective (James 5:16). The Bible also teaches that the Lord sees and hears the cries of the righteous (Psalm 34:15).

So I want to share some scriptural truths to pray over and through your children. My wife sent this to me from one of her devotions. I saved these prayers on my prayer list, I want to faithfully pray these truths over my children. I hope you do too.

I believe in the power of prayer. I believe that as parents we need to constantly be praying over and for our children. I believe with all my heart that every prayer we pray will be heard by God Almighty, and that He will answer every prayer that aligns with HIS Word and every prayer that aligns with His Will for your children’s life.

Prayers for your Son:

1. Create in my son a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within him (Psalm 51:10).
2. May my son walk after You, God, and fear You and keep Your commandments and obey Your voice. May he serve You and hold fast to You (Deuteronomy 13:4).
3. May my son be strong and courageous and not fear or be in dread, for it is You, Lord, our God, who goes with him. You will never leave him or forsake him (Deuteronomy 31:6).
4. May my son walk before You, God, as King David walked, with integrity of heart and uprightness, doing according to all that You have commanded him, and keeping Your statutes and rules (1 Kings 9:4).
5. Like Timothy, may my son be an example to believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity (1 Timothy).

Prayers for your Daughter:

1. Let her learn early in life that to obey You, God, is the best way to the life her heart truly desires (1 Samuel ).

2. May she find comfort in Your ability, God, to reach her, hold her and rescue her (2 Samuel 22:17-18).

3. Let her find confidence in You, God, even when hard times come and she doesn’t know what to do, by keeping her eyes fixed on You (2 Chronicles 20:12).

4. May she keep herself under control and not give full vent to people and situations that anger her (Proverbs 29:11).

5. Let her walk in the security of Your assigned worth to her. Give her a strong work ethic and health to accomplish all her tasks. Give her a heart that desires to extend her hand to those in need. Protect her for the right husband, a man of respect and godly honor. And let her be a woman of joy and laughter whose Christ-centered character is what makes her most beautiful (Proverbs 31).

I encourage all of you to pray these over your children. If you don’t have children, pray them over your future children, or children of loved ones. Let’s do our work behind the scenes for God’s Kingdom. Let’s be a part of raising up a generation that loves and serves God. A generation that no longer lives for themselves but lives for Christ first, others second, and themselves last!

I will definitely be praying these over my son. Thank you Jesus for my family. I promise to raise them in Your Word.
