Joshua left nothing undone…

February 14, 2014

Joshua 11:15

As the Lord had commanded Moses his servant, so Moses commanded Joshua, and so Joshua did. He left nothing undone of all that the Lord had commanded Moses.

Last night as I was reading this verse really jumped out at me and got me thinking. I was thinking how awesome Joshua must have been. What a great leader. What a great man. How awesome that must be to be obedient to everything you were called to do. I also began thinking about how challenging that must have been. Although the Bible doesn’t talk about Joshua’s struggles, fears or insecurities, he must have had some because we all do. But, he still did, he still conquered, he still made no excuses and “left nothing undone” of all that he was commanded to do through Moses.

How does this relate to us today?

Well God has given us a set of commands, they are all throughout the Bible. God has passed on to us through various authors, by divine inspiration of the Spirit of God commands that we are to live by. Here are a few of the big ones.

1. The Greatest Commandment. From these two commandments everything hangs. If we succeed in these two, everything else will fall into place.

Matthew 22:37:39

37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

2. For those of you that are married, your wife is your most important earthly relationship.

Ephesians 5:25

25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her…

3. If your reading this, then you have parents. God says this:

Ephesians 6:1-3

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: 3 “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.”

4. If you are a parent, you have a supreme calling. Make every effort to raise children that love the Lord your God.

Deuteronomy 6:5-7

5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. 6 “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.

5. I have heard before, you will know where a mans heart is by looking at his checkbook.

Matthew 6:19-21

19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal;20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

These are a few of God’s commands towards us. Are you living like Joshua, doing everything you were commanded, leaving nothing undone?

Look at what God says for those that do follow His commands:

Deuteronomy 12:28

28 Observe and obey all these words which I command you, that it may go well with you and your children after you forever, when you do what is good and right in the sight of the Lord your God.

The road is tough, it’s narrow and few find it. But we have the power through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Friends, Love God, Obey Him and Cling to Him.
