John 19:30

So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!”

In our small group a few nights ago, we covered John 19. This area of scripture if often times referred to as Holy Ground because it deals with the most important event of all time. Although there is so much to discuss, highlight and point out in this chapter, I would like to just focus on a few things that stood out in our bible study.

The first section of this chapter basically deals with how Pilate handles Jesus. Pilate is the elected Governor by Rome and has the power to condemn or acquit Jesus Christ. In this chapter Pilate basically handles Jesus three ways, Passively (1-5), Fearfully (7-10) and Selfishly(15-16).

Jesus Christ the risen savior of the world was sent to willingly lay down His life on the cross and rise from the dead. Most of the world knows this, however what we do with this information, will determine our eternal destiny. Just as Pilate had a choice, we all will be faced with our choice, and we will have to decide how do we handle Jesus.

God is so Good that He doesn’t need our WORKS, our MONEY, or our GOOD BEHAVIOR, we cannot earn our salvation.

Look at what the Apostle Paul says in Romans 10:9-10,13 NLT

9 If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.  13 For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

The second point is that the Cross is everything. Today we as a nation and society have become so desensitized to the cross. The cross today doesn’t have the weight and power of what it really stands for, that all of mankind can be forgiven and set free from the bondage of sin.

Everything is found at the Cross of Jesus Christ; Love, Sacrifice, Self-Denial, Humility, Forgiveness. It must be our focus, and the center of our lives!
