Love Your Wife as Christ Loves the Church

January 22, 2014

Ephesians 5:25

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her…

Over the last few days I have talked to a few Men in our ministry that need some prayer in their marriage. But the truth of it is, we all do. Complacency is a human trait we all suffer from, and marriage seems to be a victim of this constantly.

Why?

Because the devil hates marriage. Our worldly marriages represent our heavenly marriage with Christ when we become born-again into the family of God. If the devil can destroy our marriages here on earth, everything else becomes much easier to destroy.

What does that mean for us men?

We must fight with all of our heart, and soul to win this battle.

The Bible teaches us that we don’t fight flesh and blood. We are not fighting a physical battle, but rather a spiritual one (Ephesians 6:12). As an athlete trains, and a soldier prepares, we as Christians must equip ourselves daily to be prepared for the battles ahead.

How do we do that?

I’m glad you asked!

We must stay in the Word of God. We must not only read it, but allow it to transform, and renew our hearts and minds. We must constantly work at turning from our selfish ways and turn to the needs of our wives and family.

Genesis 2:24 says we become one with our wives in marriage. That means her needs must take the same, if not a greater precedence than us, not us then our wives.

Ephesians 6:10-20 is a another great resource for getting equipped. The Armor of God.

Meditate on these verses, inscribe them on your heart. When things are going south with your wife, be the leader God created you to be and love her as Christ loved us. No matter what we did, or were going to do, He died for us, He forgave us.

Have the heart and mind of Christ, and let your marriage be an encouragement and a light to those around you, Especially Your Children!!

Amen. It is without a doubt a constant battle to protect and preserve our marriages from the attacks of the devil. But through prayer and reliance on our Lord and Saviour He will give us the strength to overcome.

  2. Amen. Thanks for sharing TRUTH!!
