No one dies to himself

January 17, 2014

Romans 14:7

For none of us lives to himself, and no one dies to himself.

This verse was in a sermon I listened to yesterday, it really spoke to my heart. I thought and pondered my life, and the lives of so many around me. Depending on how you view your life, and life purpose this verse can either excite you or reinforce fear in you.

In Romans 14, Paul is addressing Christians. But the message is clear to all, our lives are not islands. We are all connected in relationships to others, whether we like it or not. Our lives have a ripple effect on the lives around us.

In the sermon I listened to yesterday, Pastor Adrian Rogers said that if you are going to heaven you will likely bring people with you, and if you are going to hell, you will likely bring people with you.

Ever thought of that?

If our lives our sold our for Jesus Christ, others will naturally be attracted to the Glory of God. If we are opposed to God, or choose to treat Him as a nice man who lived a long time ago, but just not relevant to us today, then naturally those around us will have the same view-point. Parents, this is especially true to us.

God gave us free will, the choice is ours. We have no one to blame but ourselves for empty purpose, but when we pass on the Good News of Jesus Christ, God deserves all the Glory, Honor and Credit.

  1. Thanks for sharing your thought on this. I have always loved that verse.

    • You are very welcome! That sad thing is I believe it’s still so hard to understand the full weight and consequences of this verse. Praise the Lord for His Grace!

So true. How we live our lives will either bring glory to God or blasphemy and it will undoubtedly effect those around us (Romans 2:24 states for the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you). We have a choice. The effect on others can either be good or bad, it’s our choice.
