Clean Your Bathroom Floor!

Clean your Bathroom Floor!

How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart?

Cleanse me from these hidden faults. Psalm 19:12 NLT

The other night when I was working and I walked into the bathroom and looked at the floor. Let’s face it, when bathroom floors don’t have a regular cleaning schedule, they don’t get cleaned. Then God began showing me how are lives can be like this floor. Our lives need to be cleansed, and like most bathrooms once a year won’t cut it.

Let’s look at the basics of what it takes to keep a bathroom floor clean:

FIRST,  any public or private bathroom will most likely have some type of cleaning schedule. Whether it’s every morning, every night, or every Monday. The point is there is a time set aside to give this floor (bathroom) the attention it needs to be cleaned on a consistent basis.

He went to the synagogue to reason with the Jews and the God-fearing Gentiles, and

he spoke daily in the public squares to all who happened to be there. Acts 17:17 NLT

If you read the rest of that passage starting in verse 16, you see that Paul wanted to see change. In order for Paul to see change he set up a schedule, a routine, a daily habit to accomplish his goals. The point God wanted me to get was that we need to have him on our schedule, we need to have a routine for God. In all of our busy lives we can all come up with 101 excuses why we don’t have time for God. But in all reality it’s because there is no schedule.

But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. Psalm 1:2 NLT

SECOND, in order to get the germs and dirt killed and removed from our bathroom we need some chemical assistance. There are so many choices for cleaning a bathroom floor. Everything from Pine-Sol to Tilex, depending on what type of floor you have. However for us there is only one thing that will truly remove the dirt and germs in our lives. For us the only thing is putting the Word of God in our lives.

For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between

soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Hebrews 4:12 NLT

THIRD, the last thing we need is an applicator for our chemical. We need a device to apply our chemical, so we can then apply it to the floor. Most times it’s a mop or some type of scrubber to remove the dirt and germs. In our lives we need someone to help us apply our cleansing chemical, the Word of God. Whether it be a Pastor on Sunday, our mentors or even just a friend.

Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers.

Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. Ephesians 4: 11-12 NLT

What God also wanted to make very clear to me was that in order for the floor to be completely cleaned you need all three steps. The same goes for our walk, we need to make sure we make time for God, we apply the Word into our lives, and we seek and use spiritual guidance.

God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work. 2 Timothy 3:17

Heavenly Father please teach us to place you on our schedule. Teach us to not only to get into your word, but get your word into us. Place people in our lives to help us grow, and help us to recognize if they are already there. Amen!

God Bless.
