Do Not Love the World

November 26, 2013

1 John 2:15 NLT

Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you.

The message of Jesus is simple. Offensive, but simple.

Jesus, the only begotten Son of God was sent to die for your sins. If you just believe in Him you will be saved. Then to live and follow Him you must deny all your personal desires, your selfish wants, and just as He was crucified you must suffer in similar ways.

There’s the terms, anyone interested!?

At first glance, this sounds like a horrible offer. Who in their right mind would live for something this foolish? Well I can honestly say, that I Will.

Why?

When Jesus was crucified on that cross over 2000 years ago, the world saw it as foolishness. The world viewed Jesus as a fool.

Matthew 27:42 NLT

“He saved others,” they scoffed, “but he can’t save himself! So he is the King of Israel, is he? Let him come down from the cross right now, and we will believe in him!”

It takes a humble heart, a submissive heart and a repentant heart to accept the knock on your heart from Jesus. The world and it’s ways are contrary to Jesus. The devil has wittingly infused so many distractions and traps for mankind. Such as wealth, sex, sports, entertainment, and even religion. All these things are worshiped and idolized by most. We easily justify our thoughts by believing we are “good people”, showing up at church on Sunday, saying a couple hallelujahs, and prayers; but God desires all of your heart and devotion. That’s why He says we must deny all our selfish desires and carry His cross. It stems back all the way to the days of Moses and one of them Ten Commandments:

Exodus 20:3-4

3 “You must not have any other god but me. 4 …for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods.

Let’s be honest, the Call for Christ is a difficult one. It takes great faith, it takes courage and it takes discipline. But, it is absolutely worth it, in fact it is so worth it that for over the last century alone, millions of Christians have given their life for the name of Jesus Christ. Here in America we dont hear much about that, we dont realize the reality of those facts, but things are changing in our land. This message is becoming so offensive that it is not getting any easier to live as a true disciple of Jesus Christ.

But, God truly has a greater plan and purpose for your life than you could ever imagine, or dream up, that’s a guarantee. There are just two commands to follow:

Matthew 22:37-39

37 Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

My hope and prayer is that God will continue to soften your heart to His message. That in your pursuit of worldly things such as comfort, security and status, you will see the emptiness, you will see how nothing seems to satisfy your desires. There is only one thing that will fully satisfy you, it is the Love of Jesus that surrendered All so that you can have life, and life everlasting.

I join in that prayer and also pray that the LORD continues to strengthen us through His Holy Spirit to preach the Gospel boldly and without fear to this lost, broken world.
