God’s Only Design for Marriage : Jesus Christ is Greater than Sin

November 22, 2013

Romans 6:10-13 NLT

10 When he (Jesus) died, he died once to break the power of sin. But now that he lives, he lives for the glory of God. 11 So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus.12 Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires.

13 Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God. (emphasis added)

These verses have power over any sin in your life, today we will use them for our topic in this series of marriage between a man and a woman. But don’t limit it to this, God allowed His Son Jesus to become sin for us, so that by His Death and Resurrection the power of sin no longer has a hold on those born again in Christ Jesus.

A common argument, or theme you will hear about the homosexual movement is that people with these feelings are born that way. There has to be some truth to that, but as with everything else in human nature, everyone is different. It is impossible to put something with so many different dynamics and external factors into one box. So to avoid being hung up on this argument let’s say that some are born this way and some are not, because it would be impossible to prove otherwise.

As a heterosexual male or female the desire for sex starts in our younger years (teens maybe). As hormones begin to flow through our bodies, physical contact begins in our relationships, our sexual desire is turned on. Again, we all have different levels and desires, but the point is that we have sexual desires. According to God’s Word, sex before marriage is a sin. Sex before marriage is also known as fornication in the Bible. Our bodies were created to be enjoyed with one person, not multiple partners. One consequence of sex before marriage is the sexual baggage, memories and history you will carry into your marriage with the person God truly intended you for.

Once we are married we now have a partner to fulfill those sexual desires, however does the desire or attraction for the opposite sex go away? Absolutely not. What we do know is we choose to honor our marriage vows. We choose to be faithful to our husband or wife. Lets be honest with ourselves, even though your married has there ever been a sexual thought or even a feeling that does not align with God’s purpose for your marriage? I’m pretty sure the majority of us have been a victim of this.

But what matters most now is what you do with that thought or those feelings. Do you entertain it? Do start to go down that path in experimentation? Or do you fully submit to that thought or feeling?

This same choice is for all of us. We all have a choice to act on a sinful thought or to reject it and submit it to God. Homosexual thoughts or feelings are the same. They are sinful desires that the devil uses to separate men and women from living the life God has planned for them. Should homosexuals be treated any different from us who have heterosexual thoughts and desires outside of our marriage vows; or for singles, outside of God’s commands for purity? Absolutely not. We were born as sinners. We live were the Prince of this World (the Devil, John 12:31) is running rampant and desires to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10) everything that represents God. So we all struggle with thoughts and feelings that are contrary to God’s ways.

2 Corinthians 10:5

casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ…

For those of us that have asked Jesus Christ into our hearts, to be our personal Lord and Savior we have forgiveness of our sins. That doesn’t mean we continue in sin, or justify things that are not obvious sins. But rather we bring every thought into captivity, submitting it to Christ, into the obedience of His Word. Whatever His Word says, we make our lives align with it. Jesus is greater than any sinful behavior, He is greater than any obstacle or any struggle, He is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. But we must submit to Him. We must submit to His Word and His Commands. To some of you this seems like bondage, However, there is only true freedom when we align our lives with Him and walk wholeheartedly with Him.

May God Bless every eye that reads this, with a deeper understanding of Him and His Love for all mankind. And may He soften every heart, to be open and receptive to His Love, Grace and Mercy.
