God’s Only Design for Marriage: Let Man not Separate

November 14, 2013

Genesis 1:31 NLT

Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was very good! And evening passed and morning came, marking the sixth day

Continuing on in our series for Biblical marriage, lets illustrate how everything God created was good and does not need to be changed according the The Word of God.

In Genesis 2:18 God says:

“It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.”

The text then describes the process of Adam naming all the beasts of the field, and birds of the air. In this process there was no helper found that was comparable to him. Obviously God knew this because He created all things. However from a human standpoint the record needed to be set straight, either for Adam then, or us now, or maybe both; but the only thing comparable for a man would be what God created next.

21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. While the man slept, the Lord God took out one of the man’s ribs and closed up the opening. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man. 23 “At last!” the man exclaimed.

“This one is bone from my bone,
    and flesh from my flesh!
She will be called ‘woman,’
because she was taken from ‘man.’”  Genesis 2:21-23 NLT

Everything God created He declared as good. Which meant it was excellent, pleasing, agreeable, right; in other words there was no need to change it. What God has declared as good, it is truly good.

By doing this God has designed the first marriage, a marriage between a man and a woman, that are united and brought together by God.

This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one. Genesis 2:24 NLT

Marriage is a sacred union created by God for Man. It is an illustration of His Love for us, and the relationship He wants with us, His Bride, the Church.

Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”  Mark 10:9 NKJV

The above verse is taken from the context when Jesus answering questions about divorce. But I believe that it is a warning to all men, whether you and I in our personal marriages, or government, judges and elected officials over the marriages of all. God’s warning is clear, man should not tamper with what God created and declared good.
