Get Equipped: Lying to the Holy Spirit

October 15, 2013

This little mini series will be titled Get Equipped. There are many new, and struggling believers in our little ministry, and my heart and goal is to get us all equipped so we can live the full and complete live God has designed for us to live.

We will cover six sins that believers, or Christians can commit against the Holy Spirit. When you become a Christian the Holy Spirit lives inside of you, and begins to guide and help you, the Bible calls Him our counselor. But we must also know that the Holy Spirit living inside of us is God in Spirit.

The book Essentials by Pastor Greg Laurie will be the basis for this six sins.

Acts 5 : 1-4

But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession. 2 And he kept back part of the proceeds, his wife also being aware of it, and brought a certain part and laid it at the apostles’ feet. 3 But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself? 4 While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.

Sin #1 – Lying to the Holy Spirit

Christian hypocrisy is so rampant today, Im not sure how bad it was over time, but I know today there is a lot of it. When we know right and choose not to do it, we are sinning. The voice you hear is not your own, that is the Holy Spirit that lives in the heart of believers trying to guide you into truth and righteousness. And for many non-believers the Holy Spirit is the voice nudging you towards God.

We must learn to obey His voice, when we don’t we are sinning against Him. The longer we go on like this the more dangerous it becomes. If not corrected you could become a full-blown hypocrite, that drinks, smokes, swears, has fits of rages, gossips and slanders all over the place…except on Sunday at church.

We must be intentional, we must work at responding to His voice. The voice of reason and truth. It will take work, it will take time, but work at it. If you are not going to work at it, you are worse off than those that openly reject God. Dont only appear holy, work at living Holy, be honest in your actions, and be honest to the Holy Spirit nudging you to do good.

As believers we have all experienced the Holy Spirit guiding us in our lives and convicting us of right from wrong and ultimately the sins we commit. The goal and purpose is to recognize that it is the Holy Spirit working in our lives and to recognize the conviction placed on our hearts and ultimately listen to and obey the Holy Spirit and turn away from sin and not fall into its temptation. Although difficult at times, as with anything, the more you do it the easier it becomes. Thank you Jesus for sending your Holy Spirit to live inside of us.
