2 Corinthians 5 : 1-10 NLT

For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself and not by human hands. 2 We grow weary in our present bodies, and we long to put on our heavenly bodies like new clothing. 3 For we will put on heavenly bodies; we will not be spirits without bodies.[a] 4 While we live in these earthly bodies, we groan and sigh, but it’s not that we want to die and get rid of these bodies that clothe us. Rather, we want to put on our new bodies so that these dying bodies will be swallowed up by life. 5 God himself has prepared us for this, and as a guarantee he has given us his Holy Spirit.

6 So we are always confident, even though we know that as long as we live in these bodies we are not at home with the Lord. 7 For we live by believing and not by seeing. 8 Yes, we are fully confident, and we would rather be away from these earthly bodies, for then we will be at home with the Lord. 9 So whether we are here in this body or away from this body, our goal is to please him. 10 For we must all stand before Christ to be judged. We will each receive whatever we deserve for the good or evil we have done in this earthly body.

This message has been strong on my heart this morning.

  • When you live for eternity with Christ, the cares and worries of this life look very different.

  • We spend approximately 80 years on earth, and eternity outside of this earth. Where should the focus be?

  • If you really believe in the Promises of God through His Holy Word, there is no need to stress, worry, and fret over situations out of your control.

  • Almighty God is so big that no problem, no worry is too big or too small for Him. Seek Him and Find Him in the BIG and the small in your life.

  • God calls you to honestly evaluate yourself; Are you Others-Centered and Heaven-Centered; or are you Self-Centered and Earthly-Centered?

John 14: 1-4 NLT

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. 2 There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? 3 When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.”

These 10 verses in chapter 5 sum it all up pretty well. To be absent from the body means that we are present with the LORD!!! For eternity. Have you ever really just thought about the word “eternity?” It blows my mind everytime.

Only the chosen few understand that God holds the keys to our existence. He currently resides in heaven. Christ (who is also currently in heaven) is preparing the 7th day (on earth) and the new Jerusalem (on earth). Nowhere does the Word state that men will live in heaven. Mythology is alive and well in the heathen. Most will actually argue with Christ (Matt 7:21-23) and tell Him that He is wrong! They will tell Him that their pastor taught this and that, and that they have been good, and all sorts of crap. This is the wide door. But the chosen few (the narrow door) are seeking the coming earthly kingdom, where they will live forever. Paul knew that at the resurrection, not at his death, he would be with the Lord. At the resurrection, not at death, those who know what they seek (earth) and through whom (Christ) will become immortal (1 Cor 15).
