Preach the Gospel : Sin

August 15, 2013

John 8:7

7 So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.”

In this passage Jesus is speaking to the religious leaders of the land, and basically calling them out on their self-righteousness. As Holy and Mighty as these men saw themselves their minds were very clear that they were not without sin. They may not have labeled themselves as an actual “sinner”, but it seems pretty clear to me that if you have any sin, whether lying or murder; you’re a sinner. Sin in its simplest form is still sin, and anyone that has sin is a sinner.

Today this word, “sinner” is very abrasive to people. People don’t like to put themselves on the level of sinner, because that only seems to be for the worst of our society. However we should have enough fear of God Almighty to be able to accept the fact, we are sinners in a fallen world and nothing on our own merit will remove our sin. Therefore we ALL need a Savior.

As much as this may seem like bad, horrible depressing news to some of you, it is the cold-hard truth. Lets see what the Bible says about us sinners:

Romans 3:10

As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one;

Romans 3:23

…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Genesis 6:5

Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

Genesis 3, gives the History and origin of Sin. Sin entered this world. We are born in Sin and cannot escape the sinful nature of our hearts. But we can be cleansed, and have the power to fight against it through the Blood of Jesus Christ.

There is nothing wrong with admitting you are a sinner, we all are. What matters most is what you do about that sin in your heart and life. Don’t live in denial, and don’t allow those you are sharing the gospel with to live in denial. In Love, the Gospel is to restore the Lost, set the captives free and bring us into the Saving Grace of Jesus Christ.
