Circumcise your Hearts

August 11, 2013

Jeremiah 4:3-4

3…“Break up your fallow ground,
And do not sow among thorns.
4 Circumcise yourselves to the Lord,
And take away the foreskins of your hearts,…

This verse stood out to me this morning as the LORD impressed upon me; the work we must do in our hearts.

With all scripture there is one true interpretation, but as the Word of God is living and active, there are many applications. The context of this story will be set aside so we can focus on one application of this scripture.

Fallow ground is hard, dry unusable ground. Any of us should know that this would not be the type of ground desired to plant anything.

The same goes for our hearts, if our hearts are filled with junk due to constant sinful indulgences how can the Living Word of God produce a crop of good fruit out of our hearts.

The Jews observed that the circumcision of a male was to establish their covenant with God. However God is telling us here that we must circumcise our hearts by removing things from our lives and desires from our heart, that are contrary to the Holiness of God.

The Christian Walk is both active and passive. Obviously the passive belongs to God, only He can call a man out of Sin. But the active part of our walk; is where we continue to turn, repent and no longer be a slave to sin.

God is merciful and righteous and wants you to be the best you. But it takes work. Work that is worth every ounce of effort. To store up eternal, everlasting treasures. To bring hope to the hopeless, and peace to the restless, and most importantly; life to the spiritually dead.

Everyday is a battle against the devil. Although Christ has won the war by defeating death, sin and the devil, everyday we are faced with little battles where the devil will try to trip us up through sinful temptations or put doubts in our mind about our worthiness to worship God Almighty. Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial because when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him. James 1-12. We are not alone. Call out to our LORD and Savior Jesus Christ and He will set you free!!!!
