Is God’s Forgiveness for All?

July 7, 2013

Psalm 145:18-20

18 The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth. 19 He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He also will hear their cry and save them. 20 The Lord preserves all who love Him, But all the wicked He will destroy.

Recently the topic of God’s Forgiveness came up, and God has impressed upon my heart to bring some clarity into this topic because due to poor teaching, and half-truths God’s actual forgiveness and how it is obtained has been distorted. So by God’s Grace let me try to illustrate it.

There are three key elements that this verse references in order to be near to the Lord. To be near to the Lord is translated today as having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, more on this later. The three elements are:

  1. Call upon the Lord in truth
  2. Fear the Lord
  3. Love the Lord

Without these three things in place in your life it is impossible to be near to the Lord, or in today’s “Christianise” terms, having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

In order to begin this relationship Romans 10:9 tells us:

that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

In order to believe in your heart there has to be a reverent fear of the Lord. A fear that understands God is real, that He is the creator of all things including your self, and the belief that without God you are a sinner destined to eternal death and separation from Him.

God does love each and every one of us so much that He sent His one and only Son Jesus to die for us. The righteous blood of Jesus is what washes over, and cleanses us from our sin. Without this blood, without this cleansing we have no other way to find redemption.

Ephesians 1:7

In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace

So we see now that in order to call upon the Lord obviously we need to believe in Him, in order to believe in Him there has to be some type of fear. But we need more than just fear of the Lord, because as James 2:19 says:

You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe – and tremble!

So we need to believe in His Son Jesus and what He did for us. When you say with your own mouth that you believe Jesus died for your sins and He rose from the dead you become an adopted child of God, you receive forgiveness of your sins. Does that mean you continue to live in any way you want? Absolutely not. As you call upon the Lord in truth we turn from things in our lives that are contrary to God’s Word. If we do not the Bible says we will surely die. This death refers to eternal death.

Romans 8:13

For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

I Hope this helps bring understanding to those that maybe had some misleading information.

Call upon the Lord in truth, Fear Him, and most importantly Love Him with all your Heart, Mind, Body and Soul.

Thanks for this one. It’s a blessing to have this broken down to such simple terms. I liked the verse that even the demons tremble in Fear. There is so much to say on this topic but I know that if we confess with our mouth and seek his wisdom God will show his mercy and Love for Us. John 3:36 says
Whoever believes in the son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the son will not see life, for Gods wrath remains on him. Eternal life with God begins at our conversion. Mahalo Cuz for this one before I get my day started in the word you and this Ministry are a blessing to me and my Ohana.. God Bless your day!

There is nothing more satisfying than having that personal, intimate relationship with Jesus Christ our LORD. He is our Rock, our Foundation, and our Savior.

    • Amen, Im so overwhelmed with joy and gratitude that God has called me from death to life. Im terrified to think of what my life would have been, an what it would be without HIM!
