“Let the waters abound…”

June 20, 2013

Genesis 1:20-23

20 Then God said, “Let the waters swarm with fish and other life. Let the skies be filled with birds of every kind.” 21 So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that scurries and swarms in the water, and every sort of bird—each producing offspring of the same kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 Then God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply. Let the fish fill the seas, and let the birds multiply on the earth.”

23 And evening passed and morning came, marking the fifth day.

What an amazing day of Creation! The variety in the types of birds alone, is staggering, not to mention the complexity and intuition of these winged, finned, and scaled animals. In fact this day of Creation, like all the others is so miraculous that alternative theories had to be produced in order to justify it to those lacking faith in God, the creator of all things.

Common arguments against Creation is that animals were created from the evolution of plants, and/or that all animals derived from the same primordial (existed at or from the beginning of time) cell. These arguments argue that over millions of years the animals as we know them have evolved, adapted and become what they are today.

However if this was so, why would the Bible tell us otherwise? The verse above says: “God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves…according to their kind…every winged bird according to their kind”.

God created an enormous amount of different kinds of birds, and sea creatures; however one kind does not become another kind.

There is a difference between micro and macro evolution, where in microevolution the beak of a bird can change over time to adapt to his changing environment (probably from human interaction/destruction of his environment). But there is never macroevolution where one bird or sea creature will totally evolve into another kind. A parrot does not become an eagle over millions of years.

Again as the scriptures say, “God saw that it was good”. There was no need for evolving, there was no need for animals to change kind. They were created with perfected and distinctive characteristics.
