Nibble of Bread : Are you Complete?

December 4, 2012

Ephesians 3:19

May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

Today’s reading was Ephesians 1-4, there are so many powerful verses in this section that I want to try to piece together and allow God’s words to speak rather than mine.

The love of Christ is too great for us to understand fully, yet when we begin to experience it we will be made complete. How can this happen? Well we have been blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms, because of our union with Christ (1:3). How do we achieve this union? God saved you by his grace when you believed. This is so we don’t take credit for this gift, Salvation is not a reward for good things we have done, if it were we would boast in our accomplishments (2:8-9).

This good news is a mystery to us all, believer and non-believer alike. Paul, the writer of this book was chosen to explain this mystery to us, so that God’s purpose in using us to display His wisdom to the unseen rulers and authorities in the heavenly places may be carried out (3:10). This was God’s eternal plan that was carried out through Jesus Christ our Lord (3:11). We were created new in Jesus Christ to do these good things long ago (2:10). We must put on our new nature, created to be like God – truly righteous and holy (4:24). This sounds difficult. Yet, even before God made the world, He loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes (1:4).

Don’t doubt it. Don’t lose hope. Press towards the prize. Because, we all have been prayed for constantly that we will receive spiritual wisdom, insight and that our hearts will be flooded with light in order to understand the confident hope to us that are called his holy people, God’s rich and glorious inheritance (1:16-18). So be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another just as God through Christ has forgiven you (4:32). Then we will be made complete.

I love Paul’s prayer in verses 14-19. “For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height – to know the love of Christ which passess knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” The love of Christ surpassess all understanding. Although I will never fully comprehend the love of Christ, what I do know is that Christ died for me (and you) and has saved us from our sins. He wants nothing more than for each and every one of us to experiance the fullness of His love.

    • Yes it is a very powerful verse. So many little nuggets in there. I love the visual of God’s Love as roots growing into us to strengthen us, really cool!
