Todays Daily Reading!

Romans is a beautiful book. I recently learned that the first 8 chapters of Romans have the theology, or teaching of Christianity. Pretty much in a nutshell. The second 8 chapters teach us how to apply, and live it.

Romans 1:

8-17 – What is this whole Bible and Christian thing about? Well Paul gives us a glimpse, at it. It’s about Jesus! Believing in the saving grace that His death and resurrection do for us as sinners. It is the only way to be made right with God, Or as this passage says it, through faith a righteous person has life. Faith in Jesus Christ, the whole package, not just the parts we agree with personally.

18-21 – God’s greatness is everywhere around us, He has left fingerprints of Himself all over for us to enjoy. Thank You Jesus!

22-32 – I lot of this section sounds like the mindset of many today. The heaviest verse is verse 32, they understand that God has a judgment day for all mankind, yet they continue to rebel against Him, and encourage others to do the same. Yikes.

Romans 2:

1-16 – This is a very heavy passage on sin. It really is sad how God’s Word is being trampled today. It’s so ironic cause just this morning I read an article about an atheist group trying to remove a cross from a town banner. My first reaction was anger and wanted to think bad thoughts of these people. But then I am dishonoring my God, because He loves them and wants them to be saved. So I need to pray for my heart, and also these people the God’s truth will be revealed to them.

17-29 – Although this passage is directed at the Jews there are some points that we can all apply in our lives. In verses 21-23, we must be careful that our attempt to observe the commands of Jesus don’t become a routine show to impress others. Rather, a change of heart to please and become right in the sight of God.

Romans 3:

5-8 – That is a pretty scary mindset to have. I have seen many versions of this type of mindset. Many people have become masters at twisting sin to justify it in their own eyes. This is very dangerous living. The most important thing is that when you live this type of lifestyle there is no peace, you can only truly live at peace when you are made right in God’s sight by the blood of Jesus.

9-20 – Living a life of good morals alone does not save you. Being a good person alone, does not save you. Helping the poor and needy alone does not save you. Only Jesus Saves, because only Jesus can truly change our hearts to strive for purity in God’s sight. Without Jesus, intentions and motives will get twisted for evil, if not on the surface then at the root of it.

21-31 – The confirmation for our salvation is here. None of us are created more holy. None of us were designed to have an edge on the other. We all fall short of God’s glorious standard, it is only through the blood of Jesus that we can be made right. No one deserved this kindness from the God of the universe. But we received it. All the more proof that we cannot earn our salvation, it is not about living a certain way that saves us, or following certain ways and traditions that save us, it is our Faith in Jesus that saves. But wait…verse 31, this doesn’t mean once we believe in Jesus that nothing else matters. This is very wrong, now that we have faith we can truly fulfill the law. Package deal here, can’t just have one.

Romans 4:

11 – Great point.
